Reorganization Results In Layoffs At PopCap

Well known games developer PopCap suffered layoffs today, EA confirmed. PopCap Games is known for titles like Plants vs. Zombies and Peggle. The layoffs probably happened due to reorganization at the studio in late Feb. that saw the developer split into two groups, one in gear towards mobile games and the other for console releases. The management also witnessed changes, with PopCap CEO David Roberts also stepping down and getting replaced by co-founder John Vechey in January.

“The changes we made today at PopCap were painful and we’re sorry to lose a number of our friends and colleagues,” EA told a leading website. “But it absolutely was additionally necessary so as to remain on track with our future plans for mobile games, live services, and new IP. PopCap is a studio that made its name building nice games that the world can fall in love with, and that is what we’ll still do.”
