LG Smartphones Sales Success Spoiled By Weak TV Sales

According to LG‘s first quarter earnings for this year, their profit has fallen 22 percent year-on-year because of their unsuccessful TV sales. LG shipped 10.3 million smartphones in Q1 in 2013, which is apparently their best performance since entering the market. But despite that, their operating profit fell to 350 billion won from 448 billion won ($322.88 million and $400 million respectively) last year, as the LG smartphones sales success was overshadowed by their weak TV sales.

But the company is as optimistic as ever, saying that it’s happy with the healthy sales of phones like the Optimus G and Nexus 4. It also expects the new Optimus G Pro to increase the shipments in the current and next quarter. Unfortunately, the company doesn’t expect any improvement or miracles in the TV market in the near future, but it is going to forecast a boost later this year with the release of 4K sets and 3D smart TVs.
